Octane Coffee: Westside
Published by The Blissful Glutton on January 28, 2009 at 7:48 PMI cannot believe I've never blogged about Octane before. I am so fortunate to live on the Westside and have this as my local coffee shop. What I love about this place--aside from the bitchin' and beautiful drinks the baristas prepare--is the laid-back vibe and mix of folks. I find myself lingering even when I'm short on time. I stopped by today for a little warm shelter from the nasty weather and it absolutely brightened my afternoon.
The digs
The coffee shop also offers an assortment of alcoholic beverages and a small menu of above average coffee shop fare. They host loads of events (including cuppings, the coffee equivalent of wine tasting), but they are known for their "Thursday Night Throwdown" events where anyone can flex their latte art skills in the spirit of competition for entertainment.

A flyer from a past event I grabbed from the TNT website
I have never been, but I hear they are quite fun. Check out the video below for a look at one of their TNT events:
I really have to get over to one these soon.
Verdict: Atlanta's best spot to worship the mighty and hallowed coffee bean.

Yeah Octane! I miss you...
Shhh...stop telling people. It gets too crowded sometimes already.
Glad to see this spot finally getting some good recognition, it is definitely one of my favorite "bars" in town just for the fact it is typically quiet and mellow because there are a significant number of Tech students in there studying.
There are some pretty fun events there as well; I know for those of you into electronic music it's worth checking out the Cerebral Sabbath event that goes on there on Saturday nights, some live yet mellow electronic / IDM / Ambient sounds to enjoy your high-gravity beer or coffee too.
